Repose in Christ of His Grace Bishop Athanasios Akunda of
Kisumu and All Western Kenya
We are saddened to announce the falling asleep of His Grace Bishop Athanasios of Kisumu and all Western Kenya.
We here at the Saint Sophia community where blessed by 2 visits from His Grace last year. The first visit took place over Mother's Day weekend 2017 where he joined our GOYA and their annual camping trip to Knoebles and also celebrated the Divine Liturgy on Mother's Day not only blessing our community but especially the mothers of our parish.
The second visit took place in September of 2017 where he visited us for the occasion of the Great Vespers for the feast of Saint Sophia and her 3 daughters Faith, Hope, and Agape
It was an unbelievable blessing to be in the presence of a living Saint. Everyone who came into contact with His Grace was moved by his humility, his zeal for the faith, and most importantly his love for Christ.
We ask you to please keep the family of His Grace in your prayers as they suffer the loss of a son and a brother. Please also keep his clergy and his flock of the Diocese of Kisumu in your prayers as they mourn the loss of their father and chief shepherd.
"For You are the Resurrection, the Life, and the Repose of Your servant Athanasios, the hiearch, O Christ our God; and to You do we send up glory, with Your Eternal Father and Your All-Holy, Good and Life-creating Spirit; both now and ever, and to the ages of ages. Amen."
